In honor of Black History Month, we have compiled a list of black-owned fashion brands that we admire, many of which are women-owned.
Clothing
Tove Studio
Tove Studio, based in London, was co-founded by Camille Perry and Holly Wright in 2019. Their goal in creating Tove was to establish a brand that made luxury fashion accessible to a larger audience, with an emphasis on contemporary femininity. Read more here.
Aisling Camps
After graduating from Columbia University, Aisling Camps worked as a mechanical engineer focusing on sustainability, but her passion for design led her to pursue knitwear at FIT. Following her graduation, she established her own brand, Aisling Camps, which specializes in high-quality knitwear. Her studio is located in Brooklyn and she sources her yarns from Italy. Every item is made with great care either by a small, dedicated team in Brooklyn or by a family-owned factory in Emilia-Romagna, Italy that has specialized in knitwear for three generations.
Andrea Iyamah
Founded in 2011 by Nigerian fashion designer Andrea Iyamah, the clothing line draws significant inspiration from ethnic cultures and elements of nature, featuring bold colors and modern, feminine designs.
Buzzoms
Founded by Marshay Clarke in 2020, Buzzoms' is a clothing line designed with built-in bras, with the aim of enabling women of all shapes and sizes to go braless. The brand has developed a sizing model that is based on real women's bodies, with the goal of helping women find the best and most comfortable fit for them.
Fe noel
Founder Felisha Noel is heavily influenced by her Carribean heritage and admiration for her mother and grandmother. Her women’s wear brand aims to encourage women to embrace their femininity. In addition to her design work, Fe Noel enjoys supporting young women in starting their own businesses, which she does through the Fe Noel Foundation, a program for young girls who are passionate about entrepreneurship.
Daily Paper
Daily Paper began as a blog in 2008 documenting the fashion, music, style and African influences of three childhood friends in Amsterdam—Abderrahmane Trabsini, Jefferson Osei and Hussein Suleiman. The now clothing brand has drop-based collections merging contemporary streetwear with traditional prints and patterns inspired by their African heritage. Read more here.
Heron Preston
Heron Preston is an artist, creative director, content creator, clothing designer, and DJ. He has his own streetwear brand and has collaborated with brands like Gap, Nike, and Calvin Klein. In 2016, he collaborated with DSNY (New York’s Department of Sanitation) to create a collection of zero-waste clothing and accessories.
Lurelly
Founded by Los Angeles based designer Lurell in 2012, Lurelly is a luxury brand intended to embrace femininity. Lurell, born and raised in Jamaica, became a mother at a young age. Her daughter, Jada-marie, quickly became a significant inspiration for her brand. “The collection is thought for women who are strong, spirited and individual. Women who play with seduction and sophistication, who are all about living large, and enjoying it in whichever way possible.”
House of Aama
House of Aama is a material embodiment of the spiritual expression of the mother and daughter design duo, Rebecca Henry and Akua Shabaka. Manufactured 100% in Los Angeles, garments are designed with nostalgic references informed by historical research, archival analysis, and storytelling.

KNC Beauty
Founded in 2016 by Kristen Noel Crawley, KNC Beauty specializes in all natural eye, lip, and face masks. Her products are vegan, free of dyes, and artificial fragrances (and they're fun to wear).
